Mosaic Construction Completes Renovation of Expansive Workspace on Wacker Drive

CHICAGO, IL (JULY 21, 2020) Mosaic Construction, LLC, a full-service design-build commercial and multifamily renovation firm, is pleased to announce the completion of a new office renovation project for Expansive, formerly Novel Coworking, at 211 W. Wacker Drive. This latest project follows other successful renovations at Expansive River North at 420 West Huron Street and The Loop at 73 West Monroe Street in downtown Chicago. Together, these three projects represent a combined 9,400-square-feet of renovated office space to accommodate the increase of Chicagoans looking for productive workspace as they return to the office.

At Expansive Wacker Drive, Mosaic Construction converted an approximately 3,400-square-foot first floor office into a spec suite with private offices, an open concept office area and a conference room to accommodate a fully-connected, flexible working environment. They eliminated existing walls, opened up the ceiling, renovated the bathrooms, and added new lighting and a full kitchenette.

“Mosaic Construction is proud to contribute to a positive workspace environment for Expansive members,” said Ira Singer, Principal at Mosaic Construction. “We truly appreciate the trust and collaborative relationship we have working with the Expansive team and look forward to delivering more Expansive space to support their business in the shared office sector, both locally and nationally.”

CHICAGO, IL (FEBRUARY 17, 2021) Cannabis Facility Construction (CFC), a national, full-service, cannabis design-build construction firm, is expanding its footprint into New Jersey with the completion of construction on a medical dispensary for AWH located at 395 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, NJ.

“We’re thrilled to be working with AWH as their design-build partner on the remodel of their Montclair, NJ dispensary,” said Andy Poticha, Principal at Cannabis Facility Construction. “We are working with them in multiple states and are pleased to provide design-build solutions and lend our cannabis industry expertise to a new region.”

The 1,400 square foot remodel started in early-January; work was performed during evenings and weekends, allowing the dispensary to remain open without business interruption. The renovation tripled the amount of point-of-service stations and opened up the floor to increase sales capacity, enhancing customer flow and alleviating lines and wait times. The interior renovation took only eight days to complete and was followed by an update to the exterior façade.

“Cannabis Facility Construction’s team worked around the local municipal challenges and pushed all trade partners to achieve project completion. Their industry experience was utilized here to work around operations and keep our store clean and operating daily during the project.” said KC Downer, Director of Construction at AWH.

The recently acquired medical dispensary in the New Jersey suburb is a key strategic location for the brand.

Coronavirus Workplace Policy (as of 3/16/2020, subject to change)

As our Company continues to monitor the local, national and worldwide incidence of the coronavirus and the illness it causes, COVID-19, We continue to plan construction activities and if the situation changes it will be addressed on an ongoing basis. Trade Partners are asked to review the following workplace policies and guidance while they continue to work on projects and provide necessary services. It is likely this information will change as the situation evolves and more becomes known. Questions may be directed to the Safety Board, Safety@mosaicconstruction.net.

Mosaic’s priorities in setting these workplace policies are to:

  • Maintain a safe and healthy workplace, including minimizing the transmission of contagious disease;
  • Encourage an ethos of fairness, open communications and concern for the wellbeing of all trades people.
  • Being extra vigilant and careful not to infect the jobsites, if possible.
  • Providing timely communication to keep everyone informed of the latest developments of policy changes.
  • Mosaic’s policy and procedures remain intact and all project operations and construction will be sustained until we hear otherwise from our clients or the government.

Most Important Actions to Take Now

  1. Create Contingency plans to continue jobsite activities by preparing for increased absenteeism by cross training employees to handle other functions, identifying alternative suppliers, and prioritizing activities onsite to keep moving forward to accomplish critical path items.
  2. Provide Mosaic Construction notice of any supplier or man-power issue that will affect the delivery or installation schedules.
  3. All trade partners are urged to take basic preventive measures to avoid exposure to or infection by the virus causing COVID-19.
    1. Simple measures can help lower your risk of becoming infected. We all have a responsibility to prevent the spread of flu, cold, and other illnesses. Dense social and public spaces can present an increased risk of contracting and spreading illnesses, and prevention is centered on good hygiene:
    2. Avoid hand to hand contact with others. NO handshakes.
    3. Provide ALL onsite personnel with alcohol-based hand cleaners (cover all surfaces and rub until dry).
    4. Cough/sneeze into a tissue. Dispose of used tissues immediately into a trash can. If you don’t have a tissue, cough/sneeze into the crook of your elbow, not your hands.
    5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, which accelerates the spread of infections.
    6. Avoid close contact with others who are sick.
    7. If you are sick, avoid contact with others, including parties, meetings, and events.
    8. Do not share glasses, eating utensils, water bottles, cigarettes/vapes/JUULs, lipstick/makeup, etc.
  4. Mosaic affiliates who have recently been in an area of high concern for COVID-19, which is being defined as a CDC Level 3 area, should Inform the Mosaic Safety Board and self-isolate until you receive formal advice from medical professionals.
  5. Prepare to shut down, if necessary, while maintaining jobsite safety and mitigating damage caused by a shut down.

Jobsite Policies

  • Well Employees: Tradesmen who are well are expected at work as usual, even if they have been in contact with or caring for someone who is ill with an ordinary respiratory illness (in which case, typical preventive measures are recommended for them as caregivers). Well employees are expected at work unless they have been:
    • caring for someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19, in which case they are required to self-isolate;
    • in a CDC Level 3 area of concern;
      • Note: If any of these situations apply to you, please confidentially self-report to the Safety Board at Safety@mosaicconstruction.net. The employee should be instructed to refrain from attending work as recommended by medical professionals or the public health board.
  • Sick Employees: Team members who have symptoms of respiratory illness must stay home and not come to work until they are free of fever, and any other symptoms for at least 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing or other symptom-altering medicines (e.g., cough suppressants). A fever is defined as a temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or 38 degrees Celsius taken by an oral thermometer. Those with concerns or questions about their illness or seeking advice about whether to come to work are invited to email the Safety Board at Safety@mosaicconstruction.net.

Cannabis Facility Construction Completes Construction on New Mission Dispensaries Location in Calumet City, IL

Cannabis Facility Construction (CFC), a national, full-service, cannabis design-build construction firm, is pleased to announce the completion of construction on a new Mission Dispensaries recreational and medical dispensary for 4Front Ventures Corp. in Calumet City, IL.

The dispensary, located at 1330 Torrence Avenue, across from River Oaks Center, opened to the public on December 15, 2020 and offers approximately 3,000 square feet of finished retail space, back office space for processing, a secure, oversized vault, highly advanced security system and plenty of parking.

Thanks to a program from the Calumet Region Enterprise Zone, identified by Cannabis Facility Construction, 4Front Ventures benefitted from tax-free construction materials and other real estate tax incentives throughout the renovation.

“We’re excited to have revitalized this building and delivered a beautiful dispensary in Calumet City,” said Andy Poticha, Principal at Cannabis Facility Construction. “It’s been a pleasure for us working with the Mission team who are always very detail-oriented and organized, making our job that much easier.”

As their preferred design-build partner, Cannabis Facility Construction has delivered multiple dispensaries for 4Front Ventures, including Ann Arbor, MI; Georgetown, MA; Montclair, NJ and on Chicago’s South Side.

“It’s a pleasure working with Cannabis Facility Construction as our design-build partner on this and multiple projects across the country,” said Robert Spence, Director of Facilities at Mission Dispensaries. “We decided to add additional air purification and air filtration components to our HVAC system at the Calumet City dispensary to further enhance our response to the pandemic, and the CFC team was able to adjust seamlessly mid-project so we could make a significant improvement to the indoor air quality for our occupants without delaying our opening.”

A leader in serving the construction needs of the cannabis industry since 2015, Cannabis Facility Construction has built more than 30 cultivation centers, processing laboratories and retail dispensaries customized for the needs of medical and recreational cannabis clients in ten different states.

Cannabis Design and Construction are Team Sports

Basketball, football, cannabis. What do these things have in common? They are all team sports. With the rigorous requirements for dispensary and grow facilities as well as the massive boom in the cannabis industry at the moment, “much like the complexities of operating a cannabis company itself, construction is no simple undertaking. Projects move like freight trains: There are thousands of decisions to make, and once you gain momentum, it’s difficult to stop on a dime.” Cannabis Facility Construction Principal Andy Poticha and Robert Spence of 4Front Ventures/Mission Dispensaries and Mission Calumet City Cannabis Dispensary break down fielding the right team for the job to cover your bases and produce the winning result in this Cannabis Business Executive article.

Pot shops are starting to resemble Apple stores

Our Principal Andy Poticha was featured in an article for Crain’s Chicago Business where he discussed how design in the cannabis dispensaries are becoming more high-concept and starting to resemble Apple stores and how COVID-19 has influenced that design, “You have to think about a separate place to have preorders filled versus having people shop in the store. You might come in one way, go out the other. I’m not sure the size of stores will change much. You’ll need more back of the house than floor space.” Andy said.
